Annual Services

Sports Physicals & Flu Shots

Taking a proactive approach is the best way to support your child’s wellness. At Just 4 Kids, we offer two essential annual services—sports physicals and flu shots—at our pediatric urgent care facilities. To receive either service, simply give us a call or stop by one of our three convenient locations.

What Is a Sports Physical?

A sports physical is a check-up that helps determine if your child is ready to safely participate in a specific sport. It also provides a helpful snapshot of their general health.

During the exam, our healthcare professional will check your child’s medical history, height, weight, BMI, vision and hearing, blood pressure, heart, and musculoskeletal health while also looking out for any previous injuries that may need attention.

A typical sports physical takes about 20-30 minutes, depending on your child’s health history and any specific areas that need further examination.

Why Are Sports Physicals Important?

Many sports are physically demanding, and it’s essential to make sure your child is up for the challenge to prevent injuries. In fact, most schools and teams require a sports physical before kids can join in.

Beyond their athletic impact, sports physicals are an excellent opportunity to assess your child’s overall health and development. The exam can identify potential health concerns that might otherwise go unnoticed, such as undiagnosed heart conditions, breathing issues, or joint and muscle imbalances. Catching these issues early means your child can get the care and support they need to stay healthy and perform at their best.

If the provider identifies an area of concern, they may recommend additional tests, treatment, or a follow-up with a specialist. In some cases, addressing health concerns first will allow your child to safely participate later on.

Benefits of the Flu Shot

Flu shots provide the best protection against the season’s most common strains, helping to reduce serious illness and keep your child in school. They also protect your family and community. Because schools are often hotspots for the flu spread, a vaccine can offer peace of mind that your child won’t contribute to outbreaks. Our team at Just 4 Kids follows the CDC’s recommended guidelines for flu shots, which state that individuals six months and older should receive a flu vaccination every year. Certain exceptions apply.

Our Flu Shot Process

At Just 4 Kids, we understand that flu shots can feel extra intimidating for children, so we’re here to make the process as smooth as possible. Our team is experienced in pediatric care, and we take a quick, comfortable, and child-friendly approach to flu shots, minimizing any stress.

How to Prepare for Your Child's Visit

If you’re coming in for a sports physical, be sure to bring any forms required by your child’s school or league. If your child is a new patient, be prepared to share their medical history. There’s no prep needed for flu shots, though a promise of a treat afterward is always a good idea. (We provide these in-house!)
